FEAR or FAITH
October 29, 2009
In our Sunday School class we are presently looking at how to "Slay the Giant of Fear." If I am to fight fear I will need to do so with faith. Spuergon that great Baptist preacher of another century said , "When fear comes knocking at your door send faith to answer it and you will find nobody is there." When the Israelites came out of Egypt they had plenty of giants to face but none greater then the giant of fear. They already had faced Pharaoh, already crossed the Red Sea, but again they were faced with more giants in the land that had been promised to them. They were not sure why they kept meeting up with giants but by this time they were tired of it and thought they would send some representatives to spy out this new land. What did they find more giants bigger giants. Giants just kept coming between them and their promise. The spies returned and all except two of them were filled with fear. Well that fear spread and kept a generation of Gods people out of the land of promise. Is fear keeping you from the territory God has planned for you to take and hold for a lifetime? In Deuteronomy 1:19-26 we find Fear Disregard Gods Plan, Distorts Gods Purposes, Discourages Gods People, Disbelieves Gods Promises, and Disobeys Gods Principles . Read this passage and look up the verses for each of these results of fear in Gods people and it will show you we must not walk in fear but in faith. Is fear knocking at your door today? If so send faith to answer the door and you will find nobody is at the door any longer.
CALMING THE STORMS OF LIFE
October 27, 2009
It is Tuesday morning and I am at the office and have been here for some time. It is dark still , it is quiet and I really enjoy this time of the day as it gives me time alone with the Lord. I realize it is the "Calm Before The Storm" but it is a time we can strengthen ourself for the storm. When you are in ministry for the Lord, your days are filled with many things, but one thing is for sure you will be helping people who are going through storms in many areas of life. Some are just results of living in this storm tossed world and some are storms produced from within our storm tossed old natures. I am thankful today that our Lord can still calm the seas of anyones life who will call out for his almighty hand to help. Jesus can help and He has the power to step into every forceful wind and every unstable wave and say "Peace Be Still." He can bring calm to our souls and in time calm for our circumstances. He is LORD of ALL, and He loves His own. Today may each of us bring our storm tossed worlds to HIM and ask for His power of stability and peacefulness before the day begins and over and over throughout the day as those pesky waves pick up. Remember the waves arise only to remind us that Jesus wants to walk with us and give us peace as He settles the waves of our day.
REPORTING IN!
October 26, 2009
Well it is Monday evening about 6 p. m. The day was busy and filled with lots of things we have done for the Lord. We got to the office this morning early and our internet server wasn't working so we didn't blog this morning as normal. We had our weekly staff meeting at 9 a.m. and then we met with a fellow who stopped by with some food for our Heavens Cupboard ministry. He had gone to the store and brought a whole bunch of groceries that were much needed for some families who have fallen on harder times. Then we returned some emails and went to lunch with the staff. We had a great time exhorting one another. I returned to the office and for several hours worked on returning phone calls and just organizing from the weekend. I had an appointment at 3 and it lasted till 5p.m. I think I was able to be used of the Lord to help a believer from going in the wrong direction. I had a meeting at 5:30 p.m. and now wanted to blog before I go home. Tonight I will work on Sunday next Sunday evenings message, never a dull moment for sure. We had a good day of Sunday services yesterday. The crowd was around 650 in the morning. We were down considerably in attendance perhaps because of fall break for some of our school districts and also because of so much sickness. Many homes have been affected by the flu. Make sure you pray for the ones who are sick this week. Last evening we had a young 7 year old pray with me at the end of the service and her mother took her to the prayer center afterwards to make her profession known. This is a new family to our church and just 2 weeks ago her 13 year old brother was saved in our teen department as well, AMEN. During last eves service we saw some very precious elementary children honored as they received there AWANA AWARDS for last years work. 14 children were honored for completing much memorization of SCRIPTURES. It took a lot of work for each child, parent and AWANA worker. It thrills my heart to see them standing there and receiving their reward. Reminds me one day when we will stand before the Lord at the Judgement Seat of Christ. Well I need to go for now, I will try to blog early in the morning but until then may the Lord's wonderful presence be with each and everyone of you!
"WE ARE THE DISCIPLES WHOM JSEUS LOVED"
October 23, 2009
Last evening in my elective class I was teaching a survey of the gospel John. We were teaching some background facts about this very unique man. He grew up in a little fishing town named Bethsaida. This little town was on the northern shores of the Sea of Galilee. His father was Zebedee and his mother was Salome the sister of Mary the mother of Jesus. One of his brothers was James who also was called to be one of the 12 original apostles. John was a follower of John the Baptist. He was a young man who had a great heart to know the truth and he was one who was looking for the Messiah. It is interesting that Jesus didn't go to the major cities to call His men. He didn't go to the university towns or the politically powerful places. He didn't go to the religious capital Jerusalem. He went to the little fishing towns and chose those he would invest Himself into, those He would change the world with. The scriptures tell us "not to despise the day of small beginnings." In these little towns could be found working families and devout seekers of truth. They would have a synagogue where they studied the O.T. The synagogue would have a school for the children teaching them to read and write and using the Holy Scriptures to do so. These towns were filled with sincere parents who were working hard to teach and train their children to have character, to work hard and to seek the Lord with all there hearts. These young children grew up in these surroundings and the one day John the Baptist began his public ministry and these young men and women began to hear the Messiah was coming. There hearts were again being prepared to meet their Lord. One day Jesus came through the area and two of John the Baptists disciples were with him. Andrew and John heard this baptizer say "Behold The Lamb of God" speaking about Jesus. John records in his Gospel chapter 1:39 that this event took place at the tenth hour { 4 p.m. }. As you study the passage you find that John begins to follow Jesus and he says the very hour this took place. This was the very moment he found the Messiah, the very moment he was saved. He found the Lamb of God who Loved him like no other. John never called himself John in this gospel written by him. What he does call himself many times is 'THE DISCIPLE WHOM JESUS LOVED." John was not saying Jesus loved him more then He loved the others but John was so taken by the fact that Jesus loved him. He was loved by Jesus. His gospel is all about the Loving Lamb who came to die and to save . The Holy Spirit used this man to pen the most precious words ever written, "FOR GOD SO LOVED THE WORLD THAT HE GAVE HIS ONLY BEGOTTEN SON THAT WHOSOEVER BELIEVETH IN HIM SHOULD NOT PERISH BUT HAVE Everlasting LIFE." John was so taken up in the fact that Jesus loved him. I hope Liberty Baptist is a little place that is fertile ground for Jesus to pass through and find passionate hearts longing and seeking to see and know Him. I hope this is a place where the disciples can sincerely say "WE ARE THE DISCIPLES WHOM JESUS LOVES."
DISCIPLINED ONES
October 22, 2009
I am in my office early on this Thursday morning. We stayed home yesterday and worked around the house, there seems to be no shortage of projects on the home-front as well as ministry. It helps me to stay home and get my mind on other things for a least a day. We accomplished some things getting us ready for winter, and each of you know that will be here before you know it. Tonight we will meet in Midweek service and I always look forward to that. Sunday I will be speaking on "Making Disciples." I have been asking myself the question the last several days, Am I a Real Disciple of Jesus Christ? Not that I am busy for the Lord but am I a real disciple? One who is being taught by Jesus, one who is being trained by Jesus. Am I walking every day with Christ through the everyday stuff of life and as we walk that He is teaching and training and modeling a life for me to duplicate and practically live. Weekly I work with dozens of people who are in need of help and the one reason they are in some of the sad conditions they are in is because they just won't listen and follow the LORDS lessons and leadings. It seems they want the Lord to heal and change their destitute lives without their living like Jesus would have them to live. Month after month they have the same problems and they continue to live in the same ways. Jesus came to make us Disciples {disciplined ones} and in so doing we can live a better way. A way which has freedom and victory. We can be disciples of Jesus and once we become disciples of Jesus we can help to disciple others. Are you availing yourself to one of Jesus disciples to be taught and trained? Have you been trained and now helping to teach and train others to follow the Lord? Do you have the spiritual disciplines needed to be a genuine disciple of Jesus Christ? It takes time, it takes proper priorities, it takes a desire to be different and a desire to want to live in victory. It seems often times some of God's children would rather stay in their their-undisciplined state then to rise up and become a true disciple of the Lord. Each of us believers can live the way Jesus has commanded us but will will never do this apart from DISCIPLINE. We must avail ourselves to other well disciplined Soldiers of Christ and allow the Holy Spirit to use them to help us become a discipler as well. Pray for me as we attempt to tech and motivate God's children to do so this Sunday morning.
WALKING WITH THE LORD!
October 20, 2009
It is 10:05 a.m on Tuesday morning and I am now returning to my blog sight where I was at 7:30 a.m. this morning. I had several things happen that I was not planning on. Our plans are not always God's plans for us. We need to be willing to change our plans when the Lord brings other things to us. It looks like my entire days schedule will change and that will change my entire weeks original plan. I will have to change tomorrow and Thursday and also Friday. My plans just went out the "Window" so to speak and other plans just entered in the front door. The important thing is for us to be willing to allow interruptions. Now we should be very careful to walk in the Spirit and not let just any interruption rule the day or you will never accomplish what the Lord has for you to do. But we need to be open to "Divine Appointments." You may ask how do you know the difference? Only one way, and that is to be led of the Spirit of God. To allow Him to give you discernment. He will be faithful to lead if you will be faithful to listen to Him and if you will obey His leading. I really want to encourage each of our Liberty family to be in church this Sunday evening as we teach on "How to Allow the Holy Spirit to Control Your Life." Each of us need to learn this discipline in our Christian lives. I am so thankful today that we don't have to attempt to live the Christian life in our own energy of the flesh but that we can rely on HIM who is in us{the Holy Spirit} to give us the ability to walk in such a way that honors our Lord. I trust today that each of you are attempting moment by moment to walk with the Lord.
Please pray for Gary Galbraith today. They have taken him to Ft Wayne's St. Joseph Hospital. He is having serious problems with getting his breath.
TIME AND OTHER CONCIDERATIONS
October 19, 2009
It is Monday another week has begun. Time always flies by and for certain it never stops. Minute after minute, hour after hour, day after day, week after week, month after month and year after year, time just keeps on passing by. I am sure each of you can say the same and that you often are amazed at how time flies by. One of the good things about that is every second that passes by we are one more second closer to seeing and being with Jesus! Won't be long and our Lord will break the eastern skies and will call for His church to come up and meet Him in the air. PTL. "What a Day That Will Be When My Jesus I Shall See."
Yesterday we had great services. We had a good attendance and the Lord moved in each service. The altars were used and many decisions were made for the Lord. We were able to report to the congregation that 7 teens were saved Friday night at the Teens Fifth Quarter. Also 9 were saved at our Annual Trunk or Treat which was held on Saturday afternoon. Or official count for Trunk or Treat was 738 folk who passed thru the gate. Many others came in from other points of entry. We had many many workers who also attended this function. It was well worth all the effort because 9 precious people found the Lord as Savior during this event.
I just took a pause and Nora Faye & Walter Renbarger stopped by to see me for a minutes . We were talking about life . Nora Fay just turned 90 last week and we were talking about how precious life is. Nora Fay said life is so precious that we dare not waste even one day with being angry at someone or upset about something. She said we only get a few of these days and then life will be over. We need to make each one count and make sure we enjoy the day as well. If we would stop and think about that truth we would be more apt to not let stuff ruin our day.
For all you Liberty folk please pray for Marcele Rickner as she is flying out to Denver today to attend her brother Bill's funeral. Bill was only 74 and passed away unexpectedly last Friday. Please pray for Marcele and her family at this time and especially pray as Marcele plans on giving the gospel to family members of her brother. Also pray for Lee Parker as Lees sister passed this weekend. Maybe some would choose to send a card to each of these folk. Julie Fowler is in the hospital and still in need of much prayer. God Bless each of you and we will blog again in the morning.
WHAT ARE YOU LOOKING AT?
October 15, 2009
Today in Northeast indiana it is a really UGLY day OUTSIDE. It is cold , it is rainy, it is cloudy and dismal outside. It is one of those days that you wish you didn't have to look at it and if you could it would be nice just to stay in and not go out. But that is only what we see as far as the outward visibility and that which we can experience from a limited basis. In many unseen ways there is great beauty going on around us with the rain and clouds and even though it is dismal today will help tomorrows in many beautiful ways. 1st Samuel 16:7 says "Man looketh on the outward appearance, but the lord looketh on the heart." Our society places so much emphasis on the physical beauty . Facials, hair appointments, manicures, pedicures, massages, waxing, spa treatments, gym workouts sessions, and much more have become a normal part of the American lifestyle.
The Lord does not focus on the physical appearance of His children. Instead, He looks at the heart. He is more interested in character and the holy living. "Let nothing be done through strife or vainglory: but in lowliness of mind let each esteem other better than themselves." (Phil. 2:3)
Eve must have been an absolutely gorgeous women. After all, she was the only women in a perfect world. She was fashioned in absolute perfection, yet her beauty is never mentioned in the scripture. The focus of the biblical account is on Eve's duty to her creator and her role alongside her husband. That seems to this preacher to be significant, reminding us that the greatest distinguishing trait of each human is nothing superficial.
Today I would like for each of us to understand a little better that instead of placing so much emphasis on outward beauty, put extra energy into developing good character qualities. Approval from God is much more important than approval from man.
Hope to see each of our Liberty family here for church this evening. Don't let the rainy , cold day keep you from being faithful.
REMINDER- REMINDER-- REMINDER
TONIGHT AT 5.p.m. OUR PASTORS STUDY BOOK SALE BEGINS! Many of Pastor Rickner's and my books will be sold and the money donated to Missions. Many old books will be available. The prices are very low, so if you like to read and would like to have a little bit of history be her at tonight. The sale will be before church tonight and after as well as Sunday before and after services.
YOU CAN CHANGE YOUR WORLD
October 13, 2009
Our Lord promised that "the gates of hell should not prevail against the church." That promise has been being fulfilled over and over for over two thousand years. Jesus told His church to go and share the Gospel Seed and that it would take root and produce fruit. we have witnessed this throughout the church age and I can testify I have seen it over and over again in my 36 years as a born again believer. Often times I speak with Christians who seem to doubt that sharing the Gospel is really working. They seem to be discouraged with the results they see that are following their witnessing. May I remind each of you today that we don't always see the results and if we do see some of the results we surely don't see all of them.
Edward Kimball was concerned about one of his young Sunday School students who worked in at a shoe store in town. One day, Kimball visited him in the store, found the student working in the back stocking shelves, and led him to Christ then and there. Dwight L. Moody eventually left the shoe store to become one of the greatest preachers and evangelists of all time.
Moody , whose international speaking took him to the British Isles, preached in a little chapel pastored by a young man Frederic Brotherton Meyer {F.B. MEYER }. In his sermon Moody told an emotionally charged story about a Sunday School teacher who personally went to every student in his class and led each of them to Christ.
That message changed Pastor Meyer's ministry, inspiring him to become an evangelist like Moody. Over the years, Meyer came to America. While speaking in Northfield, Mass, A young preacher heard Meyer say, "If you are not willing to give up everything for Christ , are you willing to be made willing"? That remark led J. WIlbur Chapman to respond to the call of God on his life.
Chapman went on to become one of the most effective evangelists of his time. A volunteer by the name of Billy Sunday helped set up his crusades and learned how to preach by watching Chapman's ministry becoming one of the most dynamic evangelists of the 20th century. Billy Sunday's preaching brought revival to America for several decades. Over 1 million MEN alone came down what Sunday called the Saw Dust Trail, to receive Jesus as Saviour.
Inspired by a 1924 Billy Sunday crusade in Charlotte, North Carolina a group of Christians dedicated themselves to reaching their city for Christ. The group invited the evangelist Mordeccai ham to come and hold a series of evangelistic meetings in 1932. A lanky 16 year old sat in a huge crowd one evening, spellbound by the message the white haired preacher gave. Each evening the preacher seemed to be shouting and waving his finger at the young man. Night after night the teen came and finally went forward to give his life to Christ.
That teenager was Billy Graham, Billy Graham communicated the Gospel to more people than any other person in history, and we can trace its start back to a Sunday School teacher named Kimball but in reality in goes back farther than that. It goes back before the foundations of the world . It started with the first soul winner , GOD.
But here is the point. Because of decision to go and share the Gospel with one student in a Sunday School class MILLIONS have been affected and millions more have been affected that we know nothing about and millions more may be affected in the future. God wants to use you to change the world. Make an eternal difference by sharing the Gospel with those around you and by supporting others who do God's work around the world.
Monday Report
October 12, 2009
It is monday evening about 7 p.m. and just now got time to blog. We had wonderful services yesterday. Last night by the time I got up to the pulpit to preach I was so filled with praise and thanksgiving. We are so blessed to have such a great church! We had nearly 700 in attendance in the morning and a packed house in the evening. PTL! The Lord spoke to each of us in very particular ways. I told the congregation last evening that our church has always had the manifested presence of the Lord who has decided show up in our services and has done so from the very beginning. The vast majority of our people love the Lord and each other and when visitors attend they can sense the presence of the Lord. Yesterday we had at several visiting families in all three services. As I spoke with several I think they so pleased that they will attend again and our prayer is they will continue to attend again and our prayer is they will continue to attend until they finally just find they are part of the family at LBC. Pastor Ryan informed me this morning that we have 34 couples signed up for our upcoming Couples Retreat That is great news and we look forward to those few days we each will seek to refresh our marriages. This Saturday is our annual Trunk or Treat community outreach event. This year's event is bigger and better than ever. Many of our people are involved and we need lots of prayer support so that this event will be used of the Lord. We will attempt to present the Gospel to each participant and of course we want to let parents, grandparents and children see all that Liberty Baptist can offer them in their spiritual lives. Please pray for this weekend. Well I need to go for now, I will blog early in the morning so wee will speak with you then.
TAKE THE PROJECT ON!
October 8, 2009
Good Thursday to each and every Bishir Blog reader. Almost on a weekly basis I find out we have readers I didn't know were checking out our blog on a regular basis. The purpose of the blog is to share what is happening in our church and personal life, as well as share things that are on my heart. It helps me to share and is a great way to connect with many of you several times weekly which otherwise wouldn't be possible. If you have never made a comment on the blog it would be a great way to let me know you are reading. It helps me to know I am not just taking time typing and sharing only with the wind but that there really are people out there with interest.
Yesterday I took the day and stayed at home. It was wonderful. Karen took the day off as well and we got up early and began tearing our basement apart. We worked all day and into the evening but our goals for the day were accomplished. Karen is such a hard worker and she gives me motivation for so many projects that I might not personally take on but once finished I sure enjoy and am happy that we took the projects on. We tore out walls and pulled all the carpet up along with many other tasks, just getting ready to redo the whole area in another practical layout as our family has changed and in the days ahead we are sure will change some more. At the end of the day we were very tired but the exercise was great and we felt tremendous about having our part done and in a week or so the whole project will be finished. It was not anything I was looking forward to and without Karen's drive I may have stayed with things the way they were even though it wasn't working as well as it once did and it sure wasn't as sharp as it needed to be. When finished it will work better, be cleaner, look sharper, and be ready to last for many years to come.
Now here is the spiritual point. Don't you think we are like this in our spiritual life? We just get used to things the way they are. We begin to live comfortably in areas that are not working as well as they could. Maybe things could be a little cleaner and shine a little brighter for the Glory of God. We continue to stay in the comfortable realm instead of tearing some things out and cleaning some things up along with moving some new things in. Making way for a fresh new way of life. It is painful at first. It is easier to stay the same. It will take special effort in exhausting toil. But in the end it will be best for all that we took the project on. By the way, the longer we think about it the longer we keep our life comfortable but we will lose the satisfaction of becoming all we were to be for our Lord! Take the project on today get it behind you and in a few weeks you will be so glad you did and by the way, so will so many others including your Lord.
SET FREE FROM RELIGIOUS RITUAL & REPULSIVE PREJUDICES
October 6, 2009
Hope you each are enjoying a good Tuesday. This morning I have spent in study of God's precious Word. I have been working on my second message in our new series on "Minding the Mission." We are attempting to bring a series of messages which will help us to remember what our main mission is as Christians and Churches. Last Sunday we preached our first message in this series on "Loving God as our First Priority." For sure that is our what we should focus first on in all our lives. This Sunday we will speak on "Loving Others" as much as we love ourselves. I was studying Luke 10: 25-37 where we find the story of the "Good Samaritan." It is so rich in the truths that will set us free and give us both eternal life and abundant life. Loving other humans will set us free from the slavery of Religious Ritual and Repulsive Prejudices. In this story Jesus confronts a lawyer who knew all about the laws of the Jews but was missing the freedom the law was meant to bring to his life. He was seeking eternal life, he was seeking the way to a better life now and one for all eternity. Jesus pointed out that freedom comes from keeping the law especially if we keep the command of Loving the Lord and others. If we do this we will experience real meaningful life a life that is wonderful and satisfying, one that is not full of miserable selfishness but one of being able to Love because we have experienced God's love in our life. Jesus was teaching that when we come to Him for forgiveness of sin and we receive His love by faith, then he moves into us and gives us the ability to love God and man. We can't do this without His aid but once He is a part of us we can. Once we can love like Him we can know eternal life and abundant life as well. Praise the Lord we are set free from our petty rituals and prejudices. We can love anyone, anywhere in any situation. In Luke 10 Jesus goes on to tell this lawyer a story about a Samaritan who had God's love in him so much that he {unlike the religious Priest and Levite} had the ability to overcome religious ritual and repulsive prejudice by the Lords internal help. When we find this source of love and begin to look at everyone as our neighbor we can then begin to be set free from ourselves and our selfish way of life. Once set free from this way of life can we begin to understand true freedom of what God intended for us.
KEEP PRAYING FOR SOMETHING FOR YEARS
October 5, 2009
What a beautiful day it is in this part of the state of Indiana. Fall is one of my favorite times of the year especially when it is still warm and the sun is shining bright. We had a another wonderful Lords day at Liberty yesterday. After preaching in the first service we gave an invitation as usual and as I asked for decisions to be made I looked to my left and there was my mother standing at the altar. She will be 8o years old in a few weeks and has been diagnosed with cancer which is all through her body. My brother Mike has been going by and picking her up for church and she has been in services the last 4 Sunday's. What a blessing it was for her to have the Lord work in her heart and she humbled herself and made a profession of faith. Most wont understand how monumental that was for her to do this. She swallowed her pride and came to the Lord to make sure she was His child. She has prayed with me in the past but we have never been assured of her sincerity. But yesterday was different. The Lord has given me and my brothers and sisters something to hold unto in the days ahead. I am so thankful for the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ. He is so wonderful and has answered the years and years of this preacher and many others. Thank you Jesus. We spoke on Revelation 2:1-8 on returning to your first love. What a message for the church and for many who have made profession but never been changed by the new birth. We had nearly 740 in morning attendance and the altars were used in both services. PTL. Sunday eve was well attended even though we were lower than normal. Last night was worth coming just to partake in the song service and to hear the instrumentalist along with Angie Steely's flute special. Yesterday morning the special music was tremendous as well. The Jones and Cindy Walker hit a home run with the special. I love church!
For some of you who have been praying for someone for years let me encourage you to not quit. Just keep praying and believing and never quit till you see the answer. Don't lose hope and don't listen to the enemy when he says it won't happen. God moves when we put our faith in Him even when we don't see the answer for years. Well I need to go for today. I will blog tomorrow and hope each and everyone of you have a wonderful day in the Lord.
CAMOULAGE!!
October 2, 2009
It won't be long in this part of Indiana until we begin to see hunters out in the woods and fields around us. Many of these people will wearing camoflge so that they will be able to blend in with their environment. The goal is not to draw attention to themselves but be hidden from view. Being hidden, they are able to complete their tasks without detection. It seems to me that Christians and churches today are trying to do the same. We don't want to stick out. We want to sneak something to the unchurched, we want to kind of be a witness without being a witness. We want to speak up without speaking up, to speak out without speaking out. Now I am one who beleives we need to be careful in our approach with presenting the message. I think we need to be better packaged. We need to make sure we don't bruse the fruit for sure, but I think we have gone to far with all this.
God has not called the saints to wear camoflage. Instead, He calls us to be light. We are to be markedly different from our surroundings. We should not blend in. There should be no Secret Service as we follow Christ. As we see the world and hear God's commands for our lives, the question should come to us, "Do I look like the world, or do I look like Jesus?" If our camoflage is keeping in the light, then we need to remove it. We need to begin living in such a way that the world around us does not mistake us for unbelievers. In fact, there should be no mistake Whose we are - let you light shine before all men. We need to read Matthew 5:15- 16 and practice that principle.
THE TEACHER & THE STUDENT
October 1, 2009
Good Thursday to each of you readers of the Bishir Blog. Because of the our annual Missions Conference and last weeks Answers Conference it will be three weeks between my preaching at our church on a Sunday. I am looking forward to preaching this week. We will begin a new series entitled " MINDING THE MISSION." It will center on the themes of loving God and loving others. I think it will be a real practical series and it will help us remeber what we are suppose to be doing in life as children of God. This Sunday I will preach on "Our Mission of Loving God" it will be about how we should never lose our FIRST LOVE. Next Sunday we will preach " Our Mission of Loving Others" that day we will explore the story of the Good Samaratan. I am really pumped up to preach this series and to continue our current Sunday eve series on the Holy Spirit. This Sunday evening we will teach about the Holy Spirit and the Unbeliever. My midweek elective is surveying the Gospels and it has been fun looking at the importance of the Gospels and the story of Christ on the earth.
All that to say this. Who do you think prospers more from the teaching, the teacher or the student? The teacher of course. It has again been revealed to me by personal experience, the benifit of studying the Word of God. The last several weeks because of many demands and the realty that I was not teaching as much, I didn't study as much. Then this week as I have been pressed to study more I can sense and even feel the difference in my life. There is a spiritual life, a refreshing, a better outlook, a more heavenly attitude, more faith, belief that things will be better, the enemy has not been able to work on my mind as much as my attention has been on God and not the problems. Oh the power and authority the scriptures bring to our life. I think we make the mistake of thinking we don't need to study as much if we are not teaching. We should study it more to learn it for ourselves than we do to teach it to others. Now it is a special blessing that I have in teaching others and that I can take some of my work time to do so. But I need to study it even if I am not teaching it to others. I encourage each of you to find study materials that will help you learn God's Word on a daily basis. Stop and take an hour a day for study. It will help you have victory in your life, it will help you to have power & authority in your life as well. If you need an idea of a study email me and I will help you find a study of interest. Have a great day!
