We Cannot Remain Silent

The fact is God created us with two ears, two eyes and one mouth!  James 1:19 teaches we should be slow to speak, but that does not mean we should never speak out and up. The scripture commands the follower of Jesus Christ to proclaim the gospel of Christ and to teach His Word & ways to others. There is a time we are not to remain silent but to speak.

Over the last 50 years I fear that only the minority of true Christians, pastors, and church congregations have spoken out against the evils of our society.  The fear of personal loss, being misunderstood and misunderstanding of genuine love each played their role in silencing the God’s people.  What would people think , blurred our minds from clear and decisive responses to sinful attitudes and behaviors. Responses that once would have produced strong verbal rebuke and actions that would not allow such conduct to become acceptable in our neighborhoods, schools, government, business world, and our entire nation. People who would stand up and speak out for righteousness  were in fact being used of God to help a church, community, school, corporation, a nation remain pure. Seems to me that because many if not most Christians began to take the attitude that the loving thing to do was to remain silent and just pray and keep their christian life to themselves that we find our nation in such a mess today.

This week we are watching one of of our largest and favorite retailers take a stand on allowing their restrooms to be used for both sexes. Target , seems to think this is right and after all why wouldn’t their leadership think such things. After years of God’s Word not being accepted by the lost community and worse yet years of God’s Word not being taught, lived, and proclaimed by many in the christian community who declare themselves to be followers of Jesus and yet it seems they follow the culture more than the Christ!  And perhaps those making decisions for Target have made this decision based on the stats that most agree and the few Christians who remain won’t stop shopping at Target anyway. Yes they may sign a complaint but after the dust settles those who verbalized frequent their stores  just as before.  It was just yesterday I heard in conversation that a family had decided to boycott Target and the statement was it really wont matter because in a few months it will all be forgotten.

I am using  the retailer Target as one illustration of hundreds and hundreds. How did we get here in America?  How did we get to same sex marriage, socialism, welfare state, working tax payers fast becoming the minority and  non working tax receivers becoming the majority who now out number those who vote into office our leaders? How did many of our Bible Churches get overtaken by the liberal theology crowd and now are filled with non- believers? How has Islam taken infiltrated our military and much of our established government in Washington D.C.?   How has our schools become places that breed  socialism & secularization instead of morality and christian values?

Well, it did not happen overnight. It has been decades of those who have known the truth who have failed to speak up and speak out!  Most if not all of the many things in America that we never thought we would ever see really started in lesser ways. Let me use Same Sex Marriage as illustration. Marriage between a man an a women has been under for years. The Free Sex movement in the 60’s, abortion, non fault divorce all led the way. You can’t have a sexual revolution without no fault divorce and easy contraception and if contraception fails lets just abort the baby! Then comes the homosexual movement and the moral revolution continues. Now we find the normalization of same sex relationships and behaviors expanding into what is now becoming lawful so why not same sex restrooms in our stores and soon in our schools and churches. We must understand this does not happen overnight. It is a process and such process is possible and can become swifter when the voice of truth remains silent.

Today we hear the words, “It can’t get any worse” or “ “ we can’t stop it anyway”.  May I suggest these were the words I heard 40 years ago and the attitudes I have observed over the entire span of those years. With that attitude comes silence and the motivation to stand up and allows evil only to  grow worse, at a faster pace.  We cannot be silent any longer! We must at least make our voices heard, stand for right even if we are misunderstood and if need be affect the pocket books of the vendors who push the agendas of evil! And by the way we need to vote the best way possible for those who represent evil in the least way of those running! Think about their beliefs and their promises and compare each and vote the best you can in this year of such proportion for the destiny of our nation, future of our children and the gospel’s proclamation.

We dare not misunderstand the danger of REMAINING SILENT and the power of STANDING UP and SPEAKING OUT! We dare not underestimate the scale and significance of this moral revolution in our society.  As well, Christians and Churches must not  underestimate the power of the truth and the gospel of Jesus Christ. May we be faithful to take every opportunity to share the truth in such a time as this.
